Game, Set, Match: Cult brand LACOSTE
Sporty styles with a retro touch that combine minimalistic, modern design with French elegance. It could even be said that René Lacoste is the founding father of the athleisure trend. With the invention of the polo shirt in 1933, René Lacoste not only revolutionised the sport of tennis, but also created a classic that still has absolute cult status to this day. The polo shirt was designed for tennis players at the time, but soon became an absolute must-have for France’s haute society and thereby made its breakthrough from the tennis court to smart-casual everyday wear. This tennis heritage is still very much reflected in the collections’ designs, prints and patterns. The stripes and checks are reminiscent of the lines and nets of a tennis court, while hybrid fabrics and high-tech piqué give the pieces a functional component. The iconic Lacoste polo shirt has gone on to be developed in lots of different variations and materials. Creative director Felipe Oliveira Baptista, who has been creating LACOSTE collections since 2010, draws his inspiration from the extensive LACOSTE archives, breathing new life into old classics. Tradition and trends are cleverly combined to form smart-casual looks with the unmistakeable LACOSTE spirit.
