BY JANINE – Don’t get me wrong, 2017 was a great year… It’s just that as soon as one year comes to an end, it’s time to start looking forward to the new year ahead. There are resolutions to be made (and broken) and new fashion trends to get excited about! And that got me thinking… What does the fashion world have in store for us in 2018? Prepare to be wowed by these trends – old and new alike!
What´s on its way out?
There are some trends that you simply aren’t sad to see the back of when they disappear as quickly as they arrived. For me, chokers fall under this category. I mean, really? Chokers? If you were alive during the 15th century or the 1990s, you’ll know what I’m talking about! Those close-fitting necklaces that double up as dog collars. What else won’t be joining us in the new year? Say bye-bye to off-the-shoulder tops, bomber jackets and bucket bags. I have to admit that I’m not too happy about this. But we all know that everything comes back into style eventually. Just make sure you hold onto your faves rather than chucking them straight in the bin!
What´s here to stay?
Now, this is where we can hear our credit cards breathe a sigh of relief. That’s right – a few of our beloved styles are sticking around. With all shades of red dominating our outfits since last summer, it’s not quite time to say goodbye this year either. What has changed, though, is that we are now seeing the vibrant colour teamed with pink or orange. Other firm favourites we can cling on to include trouser suits, ruffles, glitz and sparkles, waist belts and checked patterns. Big checks, small checks – bring them on!
What´s on the horizon?
Just to warn you – you might be called upon to be brave and bold in 2018. Let’s start with the biggest trend, which just so happens to be wearing a dress over trousers! This is ideal if you’re one of those girls that struggles to choose what to wear in the mornings. Now you can literally just pop your frock on over your bottoms. But we will have to wait and see whether this trend actually takes off beyond the fashion scene…
Other trends on the horizon include feathers, big sleeves, statement stripes, denim overalls, asymmetry and transparency.
As far as colours are concerned, bright red is joined by pastel shades, meaning that we are set to see a lot of combinations of terracotta, dusty blue, sage and yellow this year. Whatever you do, just make sure you have some traces of lavender in your wardrobe.
If you are looking to get your hands on a few pretty additions to your wardrobe, get out there and shop till you drop! Enjoy!
